Practice Areas
Mike is a senior shareholder in the firm's Real Estate and Corporate practice groups. He has over twenty-five years experience advising and counseling business interests throughout California and nationally, most prominently representing real estate and corporate clients, in a wide variety of transactions.
Mike's real estate practice spans a broad array of real estate finance, acquisition, disposition and development, lending and project finance, partnership and joint venture arrangements and real estate taxation. His corporate practice encompasses corporate, partnership, limited liability company, joint venture and entity formation, syndication and operation and general business contracts and counseling.
Mike is a frequent lecturer for real estate industry associations and the State Bar of California. He participated as a panelist at the 2007 State Bar of California Convention, (Get to the Bottom Line: Development Economics for the Real Estate Attorney) and at the 2004 Real Property Retreat, (Military Base Conversions).
He has taught numerous Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) legal education courses including the following: Drafting and Negotiating Offices Leases; Advanced Course of Study: Commercial Real Property Leases; Organizing and Advising Closely Held Businesses; Choice of Entity; Organizing and Advising Limited Liability Companies; California Limited Liability Companies: Beyond the Basics; Organizing and Advising Partnerships and Joint Ventures; and Fundamentals of Financing California Businesses. Mike is the author of several articles and publications regarding real estate matters for CEB including “California Limited Liability Companies: Beyond the Basics,” and author of the Real Estate Finance Chapter Six Update (2004-2007).
Legal and Technical Experience
Following two years in Washington, D.C., including work as a law clerk for The Honorable Judge Robert L. Kunzig, Mike began his Sacramento legal career with the Weintraub firm in 1981. Mike rejoined Weintraub in 2003, after practicing as a partner with another large regional firm and most recently with Pillsbury Winthrop LLP.
Recent Transactions
- Represented the County of Sacramento in negotiating and structuring the redevelopment and privatization of the 3,065 acre former McClellan Air Force Base with McClellan Business Park, LLC and a Morgan-Stanley lead investor group including two major ground leases, financing and airfield operations agreement.
- Represented Lenders or Borrowers on over $750 million in financings in the last several years.
- General counsel to the California Travel and Tourism Commission which recently spearheaded the IMAX film "Wild California."
