The lawsuit claimed that title insurance executives Wentzel, Gilliland and LandAmerica conspired to raid employees from North America’s Solano, Sonoma and Contra Costa county operations to staff the newly formed Liberty Title Company.

Wentzel was the former CEO of North American Title Company and formed Liberty Title Company with LandAmerica in 2005. Gilliland was a majority shareholder of the competing business for at least a year while he was president of North American’s Northern California operations, according to the lawsuit.

The jury returned a defense verdict denying all claims of trade secret violations by Wentzel and LandAmerica.
