His trials have included, among others, cases involving misappropriation of intellectual property rights, contract and fraud claims associated with a large residential real estate development, contract and business tort claims on behalf of a multinational chemical company, real estate disputes on behalf of property owners, and product defect and warranty claims on behalf of a major utility’s independent power producer subsidiary.
Mr. Gilford has extensive experience litigating and trying complex business and commercial disputes, unfair competition, intellectual property, business tort, contract, real estate, fraud, and insurance coverage disputes. He has also defended consumer class action matters in state and federal court, representing national retailers and manufacturers of nutritional supplements in claims brought under the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, and California’s unfair competition law. Mr. Gilford has also represented clients in appellate matters before the California Supreme Court, California Courts of Appeal, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Gilford focuses on evaluating cases at the earliest stage, developing a strategy in consultation with the client for a prompt resolution meeting the client’s objectives, and then executing that strategy in a cost-efficient manner. He has the experience necessary to evaluate what is truly important, and what is not important, to resolve in the case, avoiding unnecessary expense to the client on side issues and irrelevant matters. Mr. Gilford works to achieve early resolution by dispositive motion or settlement, where the client determines that settlement is in the client’s best interests. Where the case cannot be resolved by motion of settlement, Mr. Gilford has the jury and bench trial experience necessary to achieve the client’s objectives.
