Ryan Abernethy Named Vice President of Stanford Settlement Board of Directors

Weintraub Tobin is pleased to announce that attorney Ryan Abernethy has been elected Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center.

Stanford Settlement is a Sacramento not-for-profit social service organization serving neighborhoods where opportunities are limited. The mission of the agency is to help build healthy communities through individual, family, and neighborhood services. Its goal is to provide programs, services, and opportunities that will enhance the lives of disadvantaged and disenfranchised individuals and families. Emphasis is placed on those whose opportunities and capabilities are limited by personal, social, or economic circumstances. Stanford Settlement offers a variety of critical programs and services including after-school groups and summer day camps for children, a teen center program for youth, and a comprehensive senior center.

A member of the board since 2019, Ryan said, “Stanford Settlement is a hands-on social services organization with roots stretching back to the early years of Sacramento. It is fully integrated into the community and provides a range of services to all community members in need and, most acutely, for those suffering from the effects of poverty. As a Board Member, I’ve witnessed the drive of staff and fellow Board Members who are always somehow able to find creative ways to quickly adjust to changing needs and tackle problems facing the community including most recently, COVID-19. Countless bellies have been filled, relationships formed, teen delinquencies prevented, and much more, all due to Stanford Settlement’s efforts.”

As a senior attorney in Weintraub’s Labor & Employment and Litigation practice groups, Ryan has successfully represented clients in all areas of employment law, including the defense of claims involving workplace discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour issues, trade secrets infringements, and class actions.  He also regularly counsels clients regarding compliance, risk management, policy preparation, and training. In addition to his employment law practice, Ryan has successfully litigated business, consumer, insurance, and contractual disputes, among others. He has obtained defense verdicts in both state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels.
