Actor and comedian Cheech Marin donated 500 pieces from his singular art collection to create a new museum in Riverside, CA. The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art and Culture opened on June 18, 2022, and is the first major museum dedicated to Chicano art and culture in the United States.
The Center, called “The Cheech” for short, houses works by Chicano artists in a 61,420 square-foot mid-century building as part of the Riverside Art Museum.

David Mamet’s iconic American Buffalo opens March 22 at Circle in the Square Theatre, starring Laurence Fishburne, Sam Rockwell, and Darren Criss.
The Minutes, a new play by Tracy Letts, opens April 2 at Studio 54 with a cast including Blair Brown, Tracy Letts, Jessie Mueller, and Noah Reid.

USA Network premieres its two-hour film “Nash Bridges” on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The film brings back original cast members Don Johnson and Cheech Marin as elite investigators for the San Francisco Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit.
Produced by Village Roadshow Television, the film was written by Bill Chais and directed by Greg Beeman. It is based on the original series created by Carlton Cuse, which originally ran for six seasons (1996-2001) on CBS.

Actress, writer, and producer Zosia Mamet has signed a two-book deal with Viking Penguin. My First Popsicle, an anthology exploring food experiences and featuring celebrity contributors, is scheduled for publication in Fall, 2022. The second book will feature a collection of personal essays and is slated for 2023.
Currently appearing in the HBO Max series The Flight Attendant, Mamet also starred in the Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning HBO series Girls,

Thomas Schlamme is set to produce the limited series “Levittown” based on David Kushner’s bestselling book Levittown: Two Families, One Tycoon, and the Fight for Civil Rights in America’s Legendary Suburb. The book was optioned by independent studio wiip, which partnered with The Gotham Group to develop the limited series. BAFTA-winning screenwriter and director Amma Asante is attached to write the series adaptation and direct the pilot.

FX Network is adapting the newly released nonfiction book written by cybersecurity reporter Nicole Perlroth. The series is being developed by Tommy Schlamme from The West Wing. The book is about the history of cyberwarfare and how the United States became vulnerable to attack.
The drama series is being executive produced by Schlamme along with Julie deJoie. Screenwriters Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani will also exec produce, and Perlroth is slated to be a producer on the project.

Cheech Marin will be part of an upcoming Lionsgate action-comedy, Shotgun Wedding, also starring Lenny Kravitz, Jennifer Lopez, and Josh Duhamel. Jason Moore is directing the film and it is slated to start production this month. D’arcy Carden, Selena Tan, Desmin Borges, and Alex Mallari have also signed on for the film. The screenplay is about a couple who take their very opinionated families to an ultimate destination wedding and the wedding party is taken hostage.

Weintraub Tobin client, Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox of Smosh fame were featured in a Variety article announcing the premier of, “Smosh: The Movie.” Shareholder Scott Hervey represented Ian and Anthony and executive producer Barry Blumberg in their deals. The movie is now set to have its world premiere on July 23 at digital video conference VidCon in Anaheim, Calif. Following the premiere, the movie will be launched in a limited theatrical release,
