Experience

Janet is a member of the firm’s Trusts and Estates group. She advises individuals about all aspects of estate and tax planning, including as to trusts, wills, and powers of attorney. She also assists clients with estate and gift tax issues, property tax issues, real estate issues, and probate and trust administration issues, including advising executors, administrators, and trustees.

Janet counsels fiduciaries, including family members and professional fiduciaries, as to a wide range of tax and non-tax matters that arise during probate and the administration of trusts, both revocable and irrevocable. In advising fiduciaries, Janet’s expertise includes the income taxation of estates and trusts. She has extensive knowledge about the many tax forms that are required or recommended to be filed with federal, state, and local tax authorities, and she represents fiduciaries in communications with federal, state, and local tax authorities.

In addition, Janet also has extensive expertise in sales of real property by fiduciaries and in advising fiduciaries who hold and administer real property assets—residential, commercial, and farms and ranches. Holding real property assets during the probate of an estate or through the medium of a trust can present a variety of issues, and Janet represents many clients as to these issues, including with respect to purchase and sale agreements, leases, licenses, occupancy agreements, pasture and grazing leases, and crop leases.

Janet has been practicing in the Sacramento area for more than 30 years. She lectures on estate planning issues, tax issues, probate and trust administration issues, and real property issues to a variety of community and business groups. She is actively involved in charitable organizations in the community. Janet is a member of the Community Advisory Council for Shriners Hospitals for Children Northern California, and she is a member of The Foundation for UCP of Sacramento and Northern California. She also serves as Chair of the Planned Giving Committee for The Foundation for UCP of Sacramento and Northern California. Janet was named Alumna of the Year for St. Francis High School in 2008.
