New Year, New Minimum Wage

Effective January 1, 2022, California’s minimum wage rate increased to $15.00 per hour (from $14.00) for employers with 26 or more employees and $14.00 per hour (from $13.00) for employers with 25 or fewer employees. The minimum wage will reach $15.00 per hour for employers with 25 or fewer employees on January 1, 2023.

In California, many cities and counties are increasing their minimum wages faster than the state. Below is a  chart of increases set to take place in 2022.

Also note that effective January 1, 2022, the minimum salary threshold for exempt executive, administrative, and professional employees is as follows:

  • $62,400 per year for employers of 26 or more employees
  • $58,240 per year for employers of 25 or fewer employees
  • $50.00 per hour/$8,679.16 per month/$104,149.81 per year for computer professionals
  • $91.07 per hour for licensed physicians and surgeons
