Celebrating Diwali: A Spotlight on Litigation Associate Rishita Mehta
Published: November 6, 2026
In honor of the Diwali holiday, we spoke with litigation associate Rishita Mehta about what Diwali means to her, the traditions she treasures, and what she hopes to bring into the year ahead.

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated by millions of people around the world as a time of joy, renewal, and the triumph of light over darkness. Families gather, homes glow with lamps and candles, and communities share food, gifts, and good wishes for the year ahead.
For Rishita, the holiday is closely tied to family and community. “For me, Diwali is a celebration of our heritage and a time to come together as a community,” she said. “Growing up, my family would visit friends’ homes with homemade sweets and enjoy a delicious meal together. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of attending those annual Diwali parties.”
The tradition of homemade sweets is still an important part of her celebration today. “I’m most looking forward to spending the day making sweets with my family,” Rishita said. “It’s a tradition we’ve kept since I was a child, and every year I welcome the chance to slow down and enjoy a day of laughter and good food together.”
Diwali is often a time for fresh starts and reflection, and this year marks one for Rishita. She first joined Weintraub Tobin as a summer associate in 2024 and rejoined the firm as an associate attorney in 2026. She is now an active member of the firm’s Litigation Group, where she represents individuals and businesses in a variety of general litigation disputes.
Looking ahead, she hopes to put down deeper roots in Sacramento. “I’d like to become more involved in the Sacramento community, especially with South Asian and diaspora organizations,” she said.
“At its heart, Diwali is about reconnecting with community, and I’m excited to start building mine here in Sacramento.” – Rishita
