Andy Tan is Of Counsel in the Firm’s Entertainment practice group.

Andy provides comprehensive legal counsel and services to writers, directors, actors, producers, financiers, production companies, and distributors. Andy’s experience includes advising, negotiating and drafting on both sides of development deals, production services agreements, rights acquisitions, shopping agreements, distribution agreements, and talent services agreements for film, television, streaming, podcasting, videogames, and new media. He has also taken the lead production legal role on independent feature films, podcasts, and a true crime docuseries.

Andy received his B.A. in rhetoric at UC Berkeley, and his J.D. from USC Law, where he was a Merit Scholar, a Tuverson & Hillyard Scholarship recipient, and a published Senior Submissions Editor for the Southern California Law Review. He completed a full-time judicial externship for the Chief Judge of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and a federal clerkship at the U.S. District Court in Las Vegas, before returning to a global law firm as a transactional attorney, where he represented a variety of clients including major television networks, major league sports teams, reality television personalities, and prominent business owners. Prior to joining Weintraub Tobin, Andy was in-house at a private investment fund as its Deputy General Counsel, and then partnered with a 30-year entertainment industry veteran to co-found a boutique entertainment law firm that focused on independent financing, development, and production for film and television.
