Experience

Colton Dumont is an associate in the Firm’s Trusts and Estates Practice Group, where he specializes in trust administration and trusts and estates litigation.

His practice centers on guiding trustees, beneficiaries, and fiduciaries through the complex legal and practical issues that arise in the administration and resolution of trust and probate matters. Colton approaches each matter with a balance of strategic insight and pragmatic problem-solving. He is committed to helping clients navigate emotionally charged family conflicts while protecting their legal and financial interests.

Colton graduated from UC Davis Law School, where he served as a Senior Articles Editor for the UC Davis Law Review and as an Editor for Environs: UC Davis Environmental Law and Policy Journal. He authored a Law Review Note titled “Cy, Pres, Love: Judicial Discretion and Conflicts of Interest in Cy Pres Settlements” which discusses the ethical risks in “cy pres” class-action settlements, particularly where judges or class counsel may direct funds to organizations in which they have interests. While in law school, Colton served as a Judicial Extern with the Sacramento Superior Court under Judge James E. McFetridge. Colton was a summer associate with Weintraub in 2024.

Prior to law school, Colton worked as a sommelier in the Bay Area and Sacramento.

Outside of his legal work, Colton enjoys writing and recording music, as well as reading 20th century novels and poetry.
