Attorney Beth West Testifies Before the California Legislature

Weintraub Tobin Shareholder, Beth West, shared her expertise and testified before the California Legislature’s Subcommittee on Sexual Harassment Prevention and Response on February 15, 2018. The hearing focused on the legal issues surrounding sexual harassment and Ms. West’s testimony identified challenges employers face in having effective anti-harassment programs in place, as well as some legal challenges employers face when complaints are filed.

Ms. West has over 18 years of experience representing employers in all aspects of their employment relationship with their employees. She is also an experienced trainer in the prevention of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation in the workplace, and is a contributing editor to the Harassment Chapter in The Rutter Group’s California Employment Litigation treatise which is utilized by employment attorneys throughout the state. Weintraub Tobin is proud of Ms. West’s work to assist the California Legislature in its efforts to address the issue of sexual harassment at the State Capitol. Untangling the Complex Web of Leaves and Absences: FMLA/CFRA, PDL, ADA, FEHA, PFL, and Workers’ Compensation

Summary of Program

Administering leaves of absence and disability accommodations in California can be very challenging.   California has a paid sick leave law and numerous other leave laws and wage replacement benefits that interact with one another.  To properly administer leaves and accommodate employees, employers need to understand the various types of leave/accommodations available, who is eligible under what circumstances, how to interact with an employee on a leave, and what obligations an employer has when leave is exhausted.  This seminar will discuss important topics to help employers manage these laws, including:

Andrew Gilford  – Andrew Gilford has tried numerous cases in federal and state courts throughout California. His trials have included, among others, cases involving misappropriation of intellectual property rights, contract and fraud claims associated with a large residential real estate development, contract and business tort claims on behalf of a multinational chemical company, real estate disputes on behalf of property owners, and product defect and warranty claims on behalf of a major utility’s independent power producer subsidiary.

Gary Waldron – Gary is a preeminent trial lawyer who has continually practiced as a trial lawyer since 1979. He practices in the State, Federal and Bankruptcy Courts of Southern California. Mr. Waldron has tried or arbitrated over 100 cases, including over 40 jury trials.
