Weintraub Tobin partner and Board member Jessica Marlow recently joined host Chelsea Ranieri on The Zest, the official podcast of Orange Coast Magazine.
Jessica is an entertainment attorney who works closely with some of today’s most recognizable content creators and Hollywood talent, including Remi Parsons and the Oshry sisters of the popular podcast The Toast. Her practice focuses on helping clients navigate deals across podcasting, publishing, brand partnerships, and other areas of the creator economy, as well as supporting companies and brands in the digital media space. She has been recognized on The Hollywood Reporter’s Power Reps: Creator List, featured in Variety’s legal and industry reports including most recently Variety’s Women’s Impact Report, and is one of the youngest attorneys to become partner at Weintraub Tobin.
In the episode, Jessica talks about breaking into entertainment law with no industry connections, taking every job she could find, from casting MTV dating shows to working as an extra, before landing in business affairs at CAA. She also explains how becoming one of the first attorneys to represent digital creators helped her shape the deal terms that are now standard across the industry.
“I think going all in and committing to it, and being one of the first lawyers in the space, really fast-tracked my trajectory.”
The conversation also covers how creators have evolved into full-fledged media companies, why building the right team early matters, and where she sees the creator economy heading next.
“My first piece of advice for creators is always surround yourself with a good team.”
And the best career advice she ever received? “Nobody cares. Work harder.”
