The discussion covered critical legal updates, including new workplace violence prevention and indoor heat exposure requirements, as well as expanded definitions of harassment and retaliation and newly enacted legislation impacting employer practices.

Though Halloween has come and gone, a real-life scare continues to linger: the office sector of commercial real estate. Office has been the slowest sector to recover from COVID, as companies wrestle with remote/hybrid work policies in determining their future office needs. While some businesses have relinquished their office space completely or downsized to maximize the efficiency of square footage in highly amenitized buildings, others are making efforts to bring their staff back in and negotiating the inevitable reluctance from employees who got comfortable working in their loungewear. The future of office is uncertain, to say the least.

Governor Newsom has signed a number of bills into law that become effective as early as January 1, 2025. In addition, CalOSHA has approved new indoor heat illness standards. It is that time of year where employers should begin making adjustments in their policies and practices to comply with the new employment laws that impact their workplaces.

Weintraub client Marcos Efron wrote and is now directing the indie crime drama Pearl, starring West Duchovny (Painkiller) and Scott Eastwood (Fast X). The film, which is currently in production in Austin, Texas, follows a young musician, Pearl (Duchovny), who is stuck in an abusive relationship until she meets Eli (Eastwood), a bank robber on the run, who links up with her as he looks to evade law enforcement.
On November 14th, The Hollywood Radio & Television Society (HRTS) presented an informative MCLE webinar, HRTS Unscripted: The Impact of Generative AI on Nonfiction. Weintraub shareholder Scott Hervey will moderate a panel discussion about the ethical, legal, and business impacts of generative AI on the fields of nonfiction, reality, documentary, and archival work. Panelists include experts in the AI and entertainment industries.
