Governor Newsom has signed a number of bills into law that become effective as early as January 1, 2025. In addition, CalOSHA has approved new indoor heat illness standards.  It is that time of year where employers should begin making adjustments in their policies and practices to comply with the new employment laws that impact their workplaces.

On November 7, Weintraub shareholder Lukas Clary presented HR Legal Updates at the Central Valley Business Expo in Modesto, where he will provide insight on several new laws that businesses should be aware of heading into the new year. The event, which aims to foster growth and collaboration, brings together a diverse array of industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals.

The Bar Association of San Francisco Presents Diversity Conference 2024

On October 17th and 18th, The Bar Association of San Francisco’s Barristers Club Diversity and Inclusion Committee presented the Diversity Conference 2024.

The 2024 Diversity Conference theme was “Defending Democracy.” The conference included five sessions over two days and sought to deepen awareness and engagement around racial equity and inclusion efforts in the legal industry and society. This conference included multiple thought-provoking panels, prominent guest speakers, and more.

Navigating and administering leaves of absence in California has never been easy. Employers have to first understand which statutory leaves apply to their workplace and then ensure that they not only have policies in place regarding those leaves but also administer those leaves properly. Often, various leave statutes, reasonable accommodation statutes, and partial wage-replacement statutes overlap in a given situation, making compliance with the law even more difficult.

Attorneys Ryan Abernethy and Meagan Bainbridge of Weintraub Tobin’s Labor and Employment Group provided a summary of the complex statutory scheme of leave and accommodation laws under federal and state law. They also provided some helpful insights and best practices for compliance, discussed who is eligible under what circumstances, and highlighted the particular rights and obligations of both employers and employees.
