WT Deals: Paramount+ Orders Crime Drama Series “Happy Face”

Paramount+ is ordering the TV adaptation of the hit true-crime podcast series Happy Face. 

The podcast series was created by Weintraub client Melissa Jesperson-Moore and produced in partnership with iHeart Media. Jesperson-Moore discovered at 15 that her father was the serial murderer known as the Happy Face Killer, which the podcast–and her book, Shattered Silence–detail.

Ms. Jesperson-Moore is represented by Weintraub Tobin attorney Shaun Gordon.

Webinar – Mandatory Sexual Harassment Prevention Virtual Training: Engaging and Effective Training for Non-Supervisors and/or Supervisors

The regulations regarding California’s Mandatory Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for non-supervisors and supervisors require that employers with five or more employees provide at least two hours of classroom or interactive training for supervisors and at least one hour of classroom or interactive training for non-supervisors. Training must be provided every two years.

5th Circuit Temporarily Blocks OSHA’s New COVID-19 Standards Mandating Employers With 100 or More Employees to Require Vaccination or Regular Testing

UPDATE: Fifth Circuit blocks enforcement of the federal OSHA COVID-19 vaccine/testing mandate.

On November 6, 2021, a panel of the fifth circuit issued a stay against the enforcement of OSHA‘s new emergency temporary standards mandating large employers to require vaccination or testing of their workforce. The court found that there are grave statutory and constitutional issues related to the mandatory emergency temporary standards that need to be addressed.

On October 28, 2021, the Professional Fiduciary Association’s Sacramento Chapter held a meeting titled “Best Practices for Fiduciaries,” led by Weintraub attorney Mary deLeo. Attorneys Carlena Tapella was a presenter.

The presentation covered the best practices for fiduciaries to follow in fulfilling fiduciary obligations as trustees, conservators, and agents. Highlights included case management, sale of real property and administrative procedures.

Producer’s Copyright of Friday the 13th Screenplay Slashed In Screenwriter’s Termination Lawsuit

On September 30, 2021, the United State Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit decided a much-anticipated copyright reversion case involving the slasher franchise, Friday the 13th.  This case concerns the claim for copyright reversion made by Victor Miller, the screenwriter of Friday the 13th, seeking the reversion to the rights in the screenplay to the popular horror film.  The case is aptly entitled Horror Inc v. Victor Miller.

So, You’re the Trustee of an Estate…Now What?

An essential aspect of estate planning is the Trustee, who will be tasked to carry out wishes. This is such an important role that potential Trustees are usually asked if they would be willing to take on the responsibility before being named in a Trust. Occasionally, however, Trustees are surprised to find that they have been named. Regardless of how the role comes to you, the Trustor (sometimes called “Settlor,” “Grantor,” or “Trustmaker”) trusted you and believed you to be responsible.
