On September 29, 2022, WT client Macrocosm Entertainment won a News and Documentary Emmy Award for the HBO Documentary film Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street. The documentary won for Outstanding Arts and Culture Documentary.

Existing California law provides employees with the right to take paid and unpaid leaves to care for certain family members when they need the employee’s assistance to obtain medical treatment, diagnosis, or preventative care. On September 29, 2022, Governor Newsom signed into law AB 1041, which adds a “designated person” to the list of individuals for whom an employee may take California Family Rights Act or use paid sick leave.

On September 21, 2022, Shauna Correia secured a dismissal with prejudice in Sacramento Superior Court of a wage and hour class action that had been brought against our client by former employees. The plaintiffs’ counsel agreed to dismiss with prejudice in exchange for a waiver of costs after Shauna filed a summary judgment motion asserting lack of standing, waiver, and estoppel.

Copyright protection automatically attaches to a work when it is created. Specifically, copyright protection attaches to the original, creative work when it is fixed in a tangible medium, such as when it is written, drawn, recorded digitally, or typed electronically. Copyright law “protects original works of authorship including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works, such as poetry, novels, movies, songs, computer software, and architecture.” It also protects images, photos, videos, and other written work, such as blog posts. Weintraub clients Orbit Media and Sonoro have teamed up to create a series of three investigative podcast documentaries which will be produced under a new audio imprint. The podcasts, which will be released first in Spanish and then translated into other languages including English, are set to shed light on compelling and often overlooked stories throughout the world, positioning them for a fast-growing global entertainment audience.
The partnership aims to create these stories as podcasts first, with plans to expand into television and film properties.
