Alden J. Parker, a shareholder in the firm’s Labor and Employment and Litigation groups, was the former founding partner of Basham Parker LLP. Alden represents employers in litigation and administrative hearings in a broad range of employment law matters. In addition, he regularly advises clients on employment law issues and provides training to private employers.
Alden has extensive experience in wrongful termination, sexual harassment, retaliation and employment discrimination litigation in federal and state courts. Alden regularly defends employers against employment claims for discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, unfair business practices, trade secrets, violation of wage and hour laws, breach of contract, as well as numerous other tort and statutory employment law causes of action. Substantive areas of expertise include the Uniform Trade Secrets Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, California Fair Employment and Housing Act, Title VII, California Labor Code, Equal Pay Act, Family Medical Leave Act, California Family Rights Act, California Workplace Violence Safety Act, workplace harassment investigations, and workplace privacy laws.
Alden is an extremely well regarded speaker, regularly training and speaking on a wide variety of employment law topics. He has been a guest speaker for the San Mateo Employers’ Advisory Counsel, the Merced Employers’ Advisory Counsel, the San Joaquin Human Resource Management Association’s monthly seminars, and the Central Valley Human Resource Management Association’s monthly seminars. He also frequently conducts training seminars throughout the United States on employment law issues for management and non-management employees.
Alden is an active member of: the State Bar of California, the United States 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts of the Eastern, Northern and Central districts of California. He has represented employers in administrative matters before the California Labor Commissioner, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, and the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission. He has served as lead counsel in civil trials, arbitrations, mediations, and administrative hearings. Other memberships include: the Sacramento County Bar Association, the Sacramento County Labor and Employment Law Section, the Sacramento Area Human Resources Association, and the National Eagle Scout Association.
Alden graduated in 1994 from the University of California, San Diego, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. In 1998, Alden received his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. He also attended the University of Salzburg, Austria, studying International Comparative Constitutional Law under United States Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Alden believes in giving back to the community in which he resides. Living in East Sacramento with his wife and two children, Alden coaches his son’s soccer team and assists with his Cub Scout troop. Once in a while, he manages to play a little golf and tennis.
